Greetings from Concordia Lutheran School,
He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! As I write this, it is the season of Easter, the time we celebrate Christ’s victory over death and the devil. Our pastor begins the worship service with the call and response I wrote at the beginning; we say it to one another in greeting; even at a meeting last night it was said in greeting. What a joy we have at Concordia to teach and to celebrate the story of our salvation.
And what a joy it is to thank you for your support for Concordia! I want to tell you two things that make me especially happy about our school so you can see what a blessing your support is for us.
The kindergarten class was working quietly one day, each student absorbed in his work (yes, the class is all boys this year). The teacher began to hear someone humming very quietly, and when she listened carefully, she recognized the song. About the same time a classmate recognized the song and began singing. Soon another student sang along, and the first thing you know the whole class was singing “Children of the Heavenly Father” very quietly as they worked. Doesn’t that just warm your heart! Five and six year-olds knowing who they are and whose they are.
The second thing is an observation that one of the teachers made when Lutheran High School Westland announced the valedictorians and salutatorian for this year’s senior class. For at least the last six years a Concordia graduate has been a valedictorian or salutatorian for the LHWL senior class. What an honor!
These are just two of the blessings your support for Concordia has provided. And now, as we look forward to more joys and blessings, we are bold to ask for your continued support. The support from donors like you at the end of our academic year help us in our planning for next year. Costs for providing a Christian education continue to rise, and tuition income cannot support all those rising costs. Tuition for next year was increased from $4900 to $5400, a sizeable increase. With your help we can provide some tuition assistance for families who just cannot afford those increases.
With your support and the help of our shared time teachers we now have enough Chromebooks so students can each use one in class. With those computers come the costs of software licensing, software purchasing, and regular maintenance.
God has blessed us with a wonderful staff. Last year at this time we were trying to find a kindergarten teacher to replace Mrs. Hoeft. We knew God had a plan, we trusted Him, and Mrs. Carol Davis became just the teacher we needed. This year Mr. Hoeft has accepted a call and will leave Concordia. Again we are trusting that God will send just the teacher we need for Concordia. As God provides the teacher, He tells us to provide for them through their salary: A laborer is worthy of his hire. 1 Timothy 5:8. This year we have included a salary raise in our budget.
These are just a few of the ways your support is so important to us. Our ministry is to make disciples of our students while teaching them the skills they need for success in this life. Please help us to continue with this effort with your prayers and with your donation.
I encourage you to pray about your decision. Any size donation will be appreciated, and we will use it carefully. Fully 100% of your donation goes directly to school expenses. We receive contributions to pay the costs for this campaign. Please complete the enclosed form and return it with your donation or monthly pledge amount in the return envelope provided. If you would rather donate online, you will find a “Donate” button on our website, www.concordials.org.
If you know other friends and relatives who might want to provide Christian education, encourage them by sharing this letter. Perhaps you know former students who have fond memories of Concordia, Hosanna Tabor, and/or St. Paul’s schools. We would appreciate it if you would share this letter with them and provide contact details to us.
Ephesians 6 tells us “Put on the armor of God…” We daily remember to “Armor Up” against the devil as we live in Christ. Thank you for your prayers as well as your financial support for our ministry.
God’s richest blessings to you and your family,
Patricia Schultz, Principal
